The Cape Town Pro is a professional bodyboarding event that aims to showcase the best bodyboarding talent in South Africa, dueling it out at Llandudno, one of the most beautiful beaches on the Cape Peninsula, all to walk away with the crown and R25,000 in cash.
With a four-day planned event window, with dates locked in from the 15th of March to the 18th of March, the event only needs one day to run, thus allowing the organizers to select the best day where the conditions line up to create contestable waves that will ensure the maximum thrill factor from the fans on the beach.
The Cape Town Pro is open to anyone, regardless of age or gender. It is a single-division contest with limited slots available to the public. Entries will work on a first-come, first-served basis until the required 48 slots are full. After that, contestants who missed the cutoff will have a chance to enter the Cape Town Pro via a reserve list.
The contest will follow the second chance format, where the first round of the Cape Town Pro will be a non-elimination round. Riders who come in 3rd and 4th will have another opportunity to progress in the event via a repechage round. After that, the event will follow a 50% progression through all heats.
All heats for the event will be contested by 4 riders, with the top 2 riders progressing from each heat. The opening rounds will consist of 26 heats of 15 minutes each.
The quarter-finals and semi-finals will be 20 minutes long heats, with the final requiring a full 30 minutes to decide the winner.
The Cape Town Pro aims to make the most of the day, with a start time of 8 am, and if everything runs to plan, the winner is to be crowned around 7 pm that evening. First place wins R25,000, 2nd place R15,000, and 3rd place gets R10,000. There will be lots of product prizes up for grabs too, for both Athletes and spectators alike.
The Cape Town Pro promises an exciting day under the African sun filled with waves, beautiful views and the best bodyboarding South Africa can produce.
