The Cape Town Pro is lining up as the perfect way to close out this summer. This coming March, South Africa’s top bodyboarders will go head-to-head at the iconic Llandudno Beach. Running over a seven-day waiting period running from the 23 to the 29 March, the event will select the best two days of surf to decide the contest, letting the wave dictate the outcome, as it should.
With 29 riders already confirmed in a 40-rider field, just 11 spots remain for those keen to test themselves at one of the country’s best bodyboarding waves. Entries close on 15 March, and with late summer swells starting to show, the final places are expected to go quickly.
This year’s lineup pulls riders from all corners of South Africa, all heading to Llandudno to take on the locals in the frigid waters of the Atlantic seaboard. From Durban, George, Hermanus, Melkbosstrand, East London and beyond, the field reflects the full depth of SA bodyboarding — juniors, seasoned competitors, and heavy-water specialists all chasing a slice of the R30 000 prize purse.
Headlining the confirmed riders are Tristan Roberts, the double World Champion, Hankus Loubser, the reigning Cape Town Pro Champion, and Aden Kleve, the 2024 South African Champion. They’re backed by a deep supporting cast of national champions, rising talents, and long-time chargers who know exactly what Llandudno demands.
Adding extra flavour to the draw is Portugal’s Maddie Valério, a lady taking on the gentlemen’s field. She brings hard-earned experience from Supertubos — one of Portugal’s meanest waves — and steps into the Llandudno arena with confidence.
The Cape Town Pro is a single-division event, open to anyone willing to compete. There are no gender- or age-specific divisions.
Off the water, the event is set up to be just as welcoming. The Cape Town Pro is free to watch, no ticket required and is hosted at the Llandudno Lifesaving Club, with a bar service, clean toilets, food vendors, merch store, and sponsor beach activations running throughout the event. There’ll also be a vintage bodyboarding memorabilia exhibit, plenty of family-friendly fun, and a live band to close out the event in proper end-of-summer style.
With autumn swells on the horizon and the season winding down, this is exactly where riders and spectators want to be. Entries are still open, but with only 11 spots left and a 15 March cutoff, now’s the time to lock it in.
The lineup is deep. The wave is serious.
See you at Llandudno
